About Us

I was sitting in a Sustainable Agriculture conference in Richland, WA in February, listening to a farmer tell a story about being approached at a farmer’s market in Seattle by a man who wanted to loan him some money. I believe I wrote in my notebook the following words “website that connects farmers with lenders?!?” and then continued listening.

Later that same day, a few conference goers were discussing the tight credit market, especially for farmers and especially for new farmers. My thoughts immediately brought me back to the question/exclamation on my notebook. A day later, I returned home, convinced that I needed to design a website that fulfilled just what I’d written–connect farmers with people who want to lend/invest money in a farm business.

Since that day, an idea has sprouted, a website was created by my dear friend and business partner (and artist extraordinaire!)–and a business venture called seedseed.org has taken root.

We created this project because we believe in what it attempts to accomplish–allowing a way for people to tangibly connect with their hard earned money and to offer viable, doable options for farmers in the current economic climate. A win-win. Or so we hope. We have ideas about how to grow the site but for now, will open it to folks as a “pilot” i.e., not charging for using the service that seedseed provides. Eventually it will become a “service” in which people–farmers and investors or really anyone, can sign up.

Thank you for reading and we hope that you’ll join us in supporting your local food system!!
